Bar Vauté

Bar Vauté, one of Charleston’s only underground bars, was the perfect cozy spot for our group to escape the cold weather this season. Located in a historic former bank building on Broad St. directly below its sister restaurant, Brasserie le Banque, the bar is named after the former bank vault it inhabits.
Bar Vauté’s lower level entrance, plus its menu of classic and creative cocktails, give it a fun, vintage speakeasy vibe. We couldn’t resist starting off the meal with a round of drinks, like the Lady Luck, made with gin, curaçao and an egg white foam, the classic French 75 and Espresso Martini.
The restaurant’s decadent, French-inspired dishes far exceeded typical bar fare. To start, we savored plates of fresh Oysters on the Half Shell and Foie Gras Torchon made with candied kumquat and poached pear. We loved the Steak Tartare topped with a quail egg and served with pretzel bread, which is this month’s charity item - more on that later!
Some of our delicious entrées included Duck Cassoulet with duck leg confit and garlic sausage, Flounder Almondine (this dish rotates based on the fresh catch of the day) and tender Mussels served alongside crispy Frites.
Bar Vauté is definitely a place where you’ll want to leave room for dessert. The Pear Tart, Dark Chocolate Mousse and Autumn Spiced Crème Brûlée were the perfect sweet notes to end an amazing meal.
From October 26 - November 26, $1 from each Steak Tartare sold will benefit our Q4 charity partner, My Sister’s House. In addition to providing a safe shelter to domestic abuse survivors and their children since 1980, My Sister’s House also offers legal advocacy, group counseling and individual therapy, clinical support groups, community educational outreach and more.
