The Kingstide

Waterfront dining in Charleston is surprisingly harder to come by than one might think, so the Tastemakers squad was pumped to give coastal-inspired The Kingstide a try. With its beautiful backdrop of the Wando River, we all enjoyed an absolute feast fit for a king.
This massive, two-story restaurant on Daniel Island cuts no corners - the views, space, food and drinks were all outstanding.
The Kingstide menu heavily leans into the waterfront exterior, focusing on fresh seafood served raw or in woodfired variations. Executive Chef Kevin Getzewich prioritizes partnering with local and regional fisheries, farmers and purveyors to showcase the Lowcountry through his seasonally driven cuisine.
To begin our evening we tried both the Roasted Cauliflower and the Burrata. The cauliflower warmed us up with a beautiful balance of bright flavors: golden raisins and tahini alongside crunchy pepitas. Their take on the fan-favorite burrata appetizer boasted a sweet twist, with Asian pear and granola complementing the sharp parmesan. Seasonal produce was on full display here as well, as squash shined bright in both a pickled garnish and a vinaigrette.
For our mains, we enjoyed fresh, seasonal Mahi Mahi with melted leek and fennel, decadent duck fat confit celery root, bright grapefruit and a fennel sage. The Pumpkin Agnolotti was served with a smooth yuzu brown butter sauce and crispy hazelnut pangrattato.
No meal is complete without a sweet treat, and luckily The Kingstide had two options for us. Their indulgent Kingstide Crunch Bar was full of nutella, chocolate, vanilla ice cream and crispy cornflakes, and the tart Key Lime Pie was topped with toasted marshmallow and a graham cracker crumble.
It’d be tough to find someone that doesn’t love a good espresso martini, and The Kingstide’s version stuns in both presentation and flavor. They’re also donating $1 for every Espresso Martini sold from November 29 - December 29 to our Q4 nonprofit partner, Postpartum Support Charleston, benefitting new mothers struggling with maternal mental health.
