Bourbon N' Bubbles
By Elise Devoe, @CookinWithBooze
This past Thursday, the Tastemakers crew and I checked out a new King St. hot spot, Bourbon & Bubbles. They had me at two different types of alcohol in their name. When you walk into the space, it’s a very classy vibe (idk how I was allowed in) with cushy furniture and an aesthetically pleasing bar. We all decided on different drinks, but the real show-stopper of the evening was the Wheatley Vodka Martini- pictured below. Not only was it refreshing and gorg in pictures, if you go get one, $1 from it will be donated to the Beautiful Gate Center, a developmental learning center currently fundraising to provide education to children developmental disabilities in Charleston.
After sipping on our martinis, we got to sample a variety of appetizers. All their appetizers are 50% off during their happy hour (M-F 4-7pm), so that’s something to keep in mind. We started off with the Bacon Deviled Eggs and Chicken Wings with a sweet and spicy cilantro glaze. The wings might have been my favorite dish of the night because the sauce was lick-your-fingers good. We also tried the Orzo Tots and Parmesan & Herb Fries. The tots came with a fresh basil aioli that really made them pop!
It may sound like we had a lot already, but us Tastemakers can put down some food! Next we tried the Crab Dip and the Tuna Poke Tostada- both of which were crowd favorites.
Our foodie gang was just warming up with the appetizers. Now time for the entrees! The Norwegian Salmon with charred corn salsa and crispy wonton strips was my favorite entree that we tried. The corn salsa added a perfect sweetness and kick to the dish!
Is there anything that goes better with bourbon than steak? I don’t think so. Especially when you serve it with a heaping pile of roasted potatoes and broccolini. Now that’s my kind of meal.
To finish off our feast, we got to try their Confetti and Death by Chocolate Cake. I really liked the Confetti Cake (topped with gummy bears and gummy worms) because not only was it beautifully presented, it was so good I had trouble sharing it with the rest of the group. I think I may have eaten more than my fair share…
We had such a fun and delicious night at Bourbon & Bubbles. Go in for their happy hour and check out the Wheatley Martini to help the Beautiful Gate Center. Cheers!
