Scarborough & Squirrel Bar at The Ansonborough

With the chilly temperatures these days, we want nothing more than to relax with friends over drinks. So when the newly reopened boutique hotel, The Ansonborough, invited us to hang out, we couldn’t resist.
As soon as we walked into the lobby and saw the cozy seating, beautiful marble table and stunning antique paintings, we were inspired to redecorate our whole house. No detail was overlooked, and we loved exploring the space's personality. Little did we know, there was even more to this hotel than meets the eye.
We started the evening with a round of wine and classic cocktails, including espresso martinis and dirty martinis, from the Scarborough & Squirrel Bar.
To pair with our drinks, we enjoyed some Southern-inspired snacks, like the freshly made House Pimento Cheese, which had just the right kick. The Charleston Charcuterie featured an assortment of cheeses, prosciutto, okra, crostini, eggs and peach preserves. Another favorite was The Carolina BBQ Flatbread, loaded with Carolina Gold BBQ sauce, slow-smoked pulled pork, smoked gouda, onion and bell pepper.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the grand tour of The Ansonborough. Our guide began by unveiling the hidden poker room behind a bookcase, a charming nod to the neighborhood’s history (legend has it that Lord Anson won the land that is now Ansonborough in a high-stakes card game). Originally built in 1901 as a stationer’s warehouse, we enjoyed seeing all of the building’s preserved elements, including exposed beams and original brick walls. We also got to take a peek inside the guest rooms, each uniquely shaped and among the most spacious accommodations in the city. The tour concluded at the private Rooftop Garden, which includes breathtaking views of Charleston’s skyline and harbor.
The Ansonborough is generously donating $1 from every Water Lily cocktail sold from November 14 to December 14 to our Q4 partner, Water Mission, to support their efforts to provide safe water solutions worldwide.
