Bowen's Island

Beautiful sunsets by the water, locally harvested oysters, fried seafood, refreshing cocktails and beers flowing from the tap are just a few of our crew's favorite things- and Bowen's Island Restaurant (just a few minutes from the beloved Folly Beach) encapsulates them all!
Our Tastemakers crew was invited to experience this Lowcountry gem, which has been a staple for feasting on fresh seafood since 1948. We kicked off the evening with a round of rejuvenating beers, frozen cocktails and great conversation. I particularly love for my beers to be as tart and fruity tasting as possible, so of course, I guzzled down the Southern Barrel Tropical Gose.
We gathered around first to shuck some local oysters and munch on hush puppies as we gazed out at the sun beginning to set over the Folly River. Charlotte, over joyously, dug right in and shucked and slurped down about 15 oysters in under four minutes. (I'm not kidding) Next, we filled our plates (and our stomachs) with the tastiest Shrimp & Grits and a perfectly seasoned Lowcountry boil comprised of potatoes, sausage, corn on the cob and fresh shrimp.
It isn’t fair to say you've been to Bowen's if you haven't tried a Fried Seafood Platter, which comes with french fries tossed in rosemary seasoning, hushpuppies and slaw. We shared a few between our tables and rounded out the meal with the perfect combination of sweet, tart and fluffy Key Lime Pie. Who could say no to dessert this good?
Lauren, Founder of the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network (LLMN) was this month's charity partner, and we were so glad she could join to share some knowledge about protecting local Dolphins as we cleaned our plates. The Charleston area is home to only 309 resident dolphins, and the LMMN has been tracking them for 25 years now. We need your help to educate and protect these beautiful creatures.
As part of our charity partnership program, for every Order of oysters sold through June 21, $1 will be donated to LMMN so slurp up.
