Napa Brunch

By Libby Williams, @PlateSouth

There are few words in the English language that make as glassy-eyed and dreamy-headed than the word “brunch.” I love brunch. I love it so much that I will eat it any way possible – at home, with friends, alone. But going out to brunch is sort of #lifegoals…AMIRIGHT?  So when Napa Mt. Pleasant called and said they wanted to host a TastemakersCHS event for us, I was the first on the list.

It’s no secret that I love Napa. The food is incredible, the atmosphere is great, and Chef Ken is always gracious to his guests. This experience was no exception either. Tucked away in their private dining room, we had a delicious sampling of what Napa has to offer on their brunch menu which is available all weekend…that’s right – ALLLLL WEEKEND!  Do you know how hard it is to find brunch all weekend? Why is this not more of a thing for restaurants? WE NEED ALL WEEKEND BRUNCH!

I digress…

Our first course was a sampling of Chef Ken’s unique take on prosciutto and melon. Deconstructed to an almost gel-like candy, this was a great start to the meal… refreshing and light.

Next up was the most delicious Chicken and Waffles I have ever had. As chef Ken said, sometimes you change things to improve them and sometimes you just leave them alone. Well, if this is his version of leaving things alone, I am on board. Paired with a delectable spicy maple syrup and topped with Fines Herbs, this is something you MUST eat as soon as possible. It’s perfection.

The third course that came out (yes…courses….for brunch. Why is this not more of a thing?) was a Crab-Avocado toast. I am pretty picky when it comes to crab…it’s expensive, so restaurants tend to under crab their crab dishes. But this…this was perfect. The crab wasn’t over done…it was light and delicious with the benefit of the creamy avocado as a side.

Last up, and certainly not least, was the Brioche French Toast with strawberry syrup. I mean…seriously. I die… I love the crunchiness of the outside, the eggy softness of the inside, and the creaminess of the ice cream…DIE! It was the perfect ending to our deliciously indulgent brunch.

So the moral of the story here – BRUNCH. And BRUNCH HARD. ALL WEEKEND! And then maybe go shopping or take in a movie… that’s a recipe for the best weekend ever.
